Scientific Workshop:   Introduction to Recombinant DNA Techniques

The BioTechnical Institute of Maryland, Inc. (BTI, 600 E. Lombard St., Baltimore, MD, 21202) is pleased to offer the following courses in cell culture and molecular biology at our Baltimore, Maryland training center. If you have already taken one of our courses, you know their value. In addition to the offerings below, BTI can also provide customized training at your work site.

BTI's workshops are designed to provide a solid understanding of specific scientific topics through both classroom presentation and laboratory work. Clients will gain significant experience in the performance of laboratory techniques taught in each workshop. Through integrated learning methods, utilizing hands-on training to reinforce lecture material, clients will be able to apply the information learned in BTI's workshops into applications in their own laboratories.






3 Day Recombinant DNA Techniques Workshop

This course is designed for those with little or no molecular biology experience.


Lecture and laboratory exercises will be provided over a 3-day session. This training will be followed by a full workshop review, and data troubleshooting session on the last day of the course.

Topics covered


Introduction to molecular biology, restriction enzyme use, DNA electrophoresis, purification of DNA fragments from agarose gels, preparation of plasmid vectors for subcloning, the features and uses of plasmid cloning vectors, DNA ligation reactions, transformation of chemically competent E. coli, screening of recombinant clones, the isolation and analysis of recombinant clones from E. coli, construction of cDNA and genomic libraries.
