Laboratory Associates Program:   Student

Prospective Students

BTI students are motivated by their desire to learn, and to change their lives by making it possible for them to find jobs in the growing biotech industry. Trainees come to BTI to find more interesting work, for better pay than they had been earning, and to have more opportunities available to them. They are willing to work hard in the BTI Laboratory Associates Program and on the job to reach their goals.
Lab technicians perform a range of tasks, depending on the type of lab in which they work. Examples of common skills include growing cells for experiments, documentation, preparing solutions, and sterilizing equipment. Our program combines classroom training, and hands-on laboratory exercises to teach students the skills that employers need.
At BTI, we offer a three-month program to train lab technicians to perform a comprehensive list of in-demand skills. Training proceeds at a fast pace. Also, day or night programs are available. Program requirements also include a 60- hour internship in a working lab setting to gain more experience before seeking a job.
The biotech industry is growing in Maryland, and with it, the number of entry-level jobs. BTI students, with a high school education or GED, train to fill these jobs. Our students have graduated and found work at well-known local companies such as Cambrex BioScience and Johns Hopkins University.
